Seeing this gif kind of spurred me into finally saying this: I will never understand why Tom didn’t get more recognition and praise for his work in Half-Blood Prince. The scene of his breakdown in the bathroom and his confrontation with Dumbledore in the astronomy tower showcased his acting skill in a way we’d never seen from him, or in my opinion, from anyone else in the HP films before and since. Utterly raw, visceral, and dark. The sheer emotion and intensity of it took me completely out of my comfort zone. I felt every ounce of anxiety, pressure, loneliness, hopelessness, and pain that he felt. I was in awe, beyond impressed, with the way he just let go for this film. Half-Blood Prince is my favorite of the series for these reasons. It almost feels separate from the rest in how deeply, how thoroughly (and flawlessly) Draco’s personal story is explored.
